This report captures the achievements and challenges of the second phase of the ‘Youth and Safety” Initiative undertaken by Jagori in 2010 in Madanpur Khadar, a resettlement colony of Delhi. It builds upon initial work undertaken in 2009 with young women and men leaders in the community in creating awareness on gender and rights issues and highlighting concerns of women’s safety in the community and family.

This report makes an attempt to both understand the extent and nature of the problem of women’s safety in Delhi’s public spaces and recommends steps to deal with it by identifying several areas of intervention. For each of these areas, the challenge has been briefly articulated, and short, medium and long-term interventions proposed. In addition to discussing initiatives and experiences from other cities across the globe, it also sheds light on past interventions in India, and in Delhi in particular, to tackle violence against women.
