This booklet is aimed at inspiring women to take charge of their lives and to provide tools to understand and deal with violence in their lives. The booklet is meant to inform women and girls about some strategies that are useful in preventing dangerous situations, ways of reacting in such situations as well as everyday measures of creating a safer environment for themselves.

In this book, the author shares her experiences and reflections on working with men on the issue of gender in different South Asian countries. She touches upon various aspects like the need to sensitise men and create a common vocabulary; discussing masculinity in the 21st century, etc. She also gives glimpses of some ticklish issues that arise in gender workshops with men.

This Basic Gender Training (BGT) kit/packet has been developed by the Asian South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education (ASPBAE) as an effort to mainstream gender within ASPBAE. The kit pulls together various threads of the continuing conversations and dialogue within ASPBAE on gender and education. The content provides a theoretical outline for the social relations of gender and puts together a few frameworks for gender analysis along with a manual on games and exercises for participatory training.
