This handbook is a comprehensive guide on conducting Women's Safety Audit (WSAs) in low-income urban neighbourhoods, with a special focus on essential services. This Handbook is a learning tool devised with a view to inspire other groups and communities across the world to explore the links between women's safety and security and access to essential services in order to create more gender inclusive communities free from violence against women and girls.
This booklet contains case studies that represent a diversity of issues pertaining to the safety and security of women and girls of all ages. It offers a variety of examples of survivors and the mechanisms and media they utilized in order to overcome compound forms of violence and abuse. Each individual case highlights a particular subset of crimes against women: rape; dowry harassment; child marriage; and stalking.
